Soldiers killed in DRC to be repatriated on Wednesday: SANDF Chief

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) General Rudzani Maphwanya says the repatriation of the remains of soldiers who were killed in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will be completed tomorrow.

Maphwanya was responding to a question posed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) during the Defence Committee briefing where the Defence Minister Angie Motshekga was giving an update on the situation in eastern DRC.

Fourteen soldiers died there in a conflict between the M23 rebels and the Congolese army last month.

Maphwanya elaborates, “I’ve learned quite a number of things with regard to the questions that were asked. The first one I will have to try and respond to which has been persistently asked, is when are we going to get the remains of our members back. In one sentence, tomorrow.”
