Elon Musk and President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for telephonically engaging Elon Musk on the Expropriation Bill which was recently signed into law.
The EFF says Ramaphosa has effectively lost the power that he holds as the president of the country.
The party says this has inevitably opened him up to the control and manipulation of big corporations.
The EFF’s comments follow the Presidency’s confirmation this week, that Ramaphosa spoke to Musk on issues of misinformation and disinformation about South Africa.
In a strongly worded statement, the EFF says it is dismayed at Ramaphosa’s decision to break diplomatic protocols by calling Musk, who the party says is an “unelected” government official.
This, as Musk on Sunday questioned Ramaphosa on social media platform X, as to why South Africa has ‘openly racist ownership laws’ after US President Donald Trump threatened to cut funding to the country.
The EFF says. “The breaking of diplomatic protocol should never be taken lightly by citizens as it is a clear indication of how the country’s sovereignty is compromised at the behest of US foreign aid.”
The red berets add that Ramaphosa’s “conduct to lobby an unelected billionaire who is hellbent on influencing the policies of the government has the potential to open the door for state capture.”
