The South African Presidency has confirmed a call took place yesterday between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US Presidential Advisor Elon Musk.
The Presidency says in a post on X that Ramaphosa spoke with Musk on issues of misinformation and distortions about South Africa.
The call comes after rising tensions between Washington and Pretoria over a social media post by President Donald Trump casting aspersions on South Africa’s land expropriation programme and threatening to cut off funding until an investigation into that programme and the treatment of certain classes of people was concluded.

A call between International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola and his US counterpart Marco Rubio is also expected this week.
