PAC to ask the GNU to fast track land reform

2 minutes

Alternative policy proposals to fast-track land reform are amongst some of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) offerings to the discussions at the two-day Cabinet Lekgotla starting today.

The PAC is one of 10 political parties that are part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

These parties will hold their first bi-annual meeting of the GNU executive for this year at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria this afternoon.

PAC Secretary General Apa Pooe says their input to the Government Lekgotla will among others include coming up with innovative ways to expedite the return of land to the landless people.

“We will definitely come with an alternative policy programme so that when we go present to government through the Minister, who is also the PAC President, he will be reflecting the PAC expectation and what we are putting forward as a policy alternative. One of the major things that we are looking into is how do we make sure that we fast track the land restoration and we know that has been a challenge around compensation. We are going to look into that as to what are other policy positions, we can come up with. We are looking into foreign governments who were supporting the apartheid regime, can’t we look into them funding this land restoration programme.”
