EFF Gauteng criticises TMPD over treatment of E-Hailing drivers

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng have expressed concern over what they describe as unjust actions by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) against e-hailing drivers.

The party criticised the continued delays in issuing operating permits by the Gauteng Provincial Regulatory Entity (GPRE) and the impounding of vehicles despite drivers applying for permits.

The EFF has called on the City of Tshwane, TMPD, and GPRE to work collaboratively to expedite the licensing process.

EFF spokesperson Dumisani Baleni states, “We urge the e-hailing community to remain resolute in their cause. While the TMPD has a legal mandate to enforce by-laws, it must do so with fairness and consideration for the socio-economic realities faced by our people. The EFF Gauteng remains committed to advocating for the rights and dignity of e-hailing drivers and all small-scale businesses.”

The party has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the concerns of e-hailing drivers are addressed at all levels of government.
