African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says that party members in the Western Cape must prioritise reaching out to various national groups.

Ramaphosa was speaking in Athlone, Western Cape today where the ANC held a cake cutting ceremony to mark 113 years of its existence.

The ANC has brought its birthday celebrations to the province where the party has not held power since 2009.

Ramaphosa says that the ANC must be a representation of all races in the country.

“The African National Congress must not just be an organisation of a certain group of people. Non racialism means White South Africans, Black South Africans, South Africans who are Coloured, who are Indian must feel that they are at home in the African National Congress.”

Meanwhile, ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile officiated at the party’s birthday celebration at George in the Western Cape.

Mashatile was joined by ANC officials from all over the Victor Molosi Region. The event is a build up to the birthday rally on Saturday at the Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha in Cape Town.

Mashatile says the party needs to unite and become stronger in order to do well in the 2026 local government elections.

Mashatile says they are busy with the renewal of the party to take it back to its former glory days.

“This child has grown, defeated apartheid, now its rebuilding our country. We are busy with renewal of the ANC and I want them to rebuild the structures of the ANC so that the ANC can once again rise to be a formidable organisation.”
