Limpopo traders reject re-introduction of alcohol curfew laws

1 minute

Liquor traders in Limpopo have strongly rejected the proposed re-introduction of a curfew on the sale and distribution of alcohol across the province during the festive season.

Under the Limpopo Liquor Act outlets must close at 10pm during that period.

Police and government want to implement the Legislation to decrease crime and road fatalities.

Deputy chairperson of the Sekhukhune Liquor Traders’ Association, Sello Mokwana says, “We totally reject that as liquor traders across the province because it’s going to have a negative impact on all liquor traders, as it is the peak season for the industry as a whole.”

Mokwana says, “What they are also proposing on the curfew is not backed up by scientific research. Secondly, if government is really serious about implementing the curfew it should start with the manufacturers as well.”
