SAA pilots declare plan to strike from Thursday

South African Airways (SAA) pilots have reportedly declared plans to embark on a strike tomorrow over a wage dispute.

The airline revealed that the South African Airways Pilots Association initially tabled a 30-percent wage increase demand when negotiations started in May.

However, the Association has since reduced its wage demand to 15.7-percent.

SAA has tabled an 8.4-percent wage increase offer which it says is in line with what was granted to the rest of SAA staff members in June 2024.

Lead at SAA Group Corporate Affairs is Vimla Maistry, “Following extended wage negotiations South African Airways has received notification from the SAA Pilots Association of a potential strike action.  The SAA management team is committed to a fair resolution and are implementing contingency measures to ensure that any disruptions to our operations are minimal as possible for our valued customers especially during the busy December season.”
