Zibi calls for maturity among GNU partners for long-term success

The leader of Rise Mzansi, Songezo Zibi, says for the long-term success of the Government of National Unity, all partners will have to show maturity and level-headedness.

He was briefing the media at Parliament on his party’s first five months in the national legislature.

Rise has two seats in Parliament, and Zibi is the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA).

The party is also a partner of the ten-party GNU with the ANC.

Zibi says all GNU partners – especially the bigger parties – need to focus on getting the work done for South Africans.

“I don’t know any relationship that survives, where we have a private meeting, and then immediately you go and talk about it. It is so incredibly immature. I am not saying everything must be secret, but during the start of a relationship where you have to work together for 5 years, a level of discretion. Secondly, the inner dynamics of both ANC and DA may be detrimental to the GNU, if not managed properly by both parties. But if we can work through these, the GNU will have a good prognosis,” says Zibi.
