Gauteng Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile says the cost of servicing the e-tolls debt has severely affected the province’s budget.
He says despite this the budget is fairly healthy.
Maile delivered Gauteng’s medium-term budget in the provincial legislature yesterday.
He says, “The budget is confirming that our finances are in a healthy state, despite the fact that we have serious constraints. We have lost money, about R6 billion from the overstatement of our population. We lost R15 billion from the equitable debt and are facing R20.1 billion from the e-toll, so those are some of the constraints we are dealing with.”
