Probe underway after Masiphumelele taxi-related shooting

Police are investigating the murder of two men in Masiphumelele near Ocean View in the Western Cape in a suspected taxi-related attack.

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says officers responded to reports of a shooting in Pokela Road on Wednesday morning.

“Upon arrival, they found the lifeless bodies of two males aged 41 and 42 on the street with gunshot wounds. The motive for the shooting is suspected to be taxi-related, and no arrests have been made yet.”

In another taxi-related shooting, four men were killed and two others wounded on Tuesday in Nyanga on the Cape Flats.

The South African National Taxi Council has since called on law-enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively to bring to book those responsible for the crime.

The Nyanga Community Policing Forum on the Cape Flats called for peace talks between rival taxi associations, the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association.
