Contralesa gives stern warning to non-compliant initiation schools

The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) has warned initiation school owners against enrolling young boys without the permission of their parents.

Contralesa President Chief Lameck Mokoena has alleged that some of the young boys are ill-treated.

He says they have also discovered that the initiation schools that forcefully take the young boys are not registered.

Mokoena has advised parents to report such incidents to the police.

He says, “Contralesa is surprised to learn that there are some Ingoma holders who are abducting young boys and taking them to initiation schools without the permission of their parents.”

“Some are even ill-treating those young boys, some of those schools are illegals and some owners also charge exorbitant amounts.”

Mokoena adds, “Contralesa condemns all the above in the strongest terms. Parents are advised not to take their young boys to such schools. Any person who will be found doing all the wrong things in the name of culture will be dealt with harshly.”
