Senzo Meyiwa trial adjourned for new defence witness for Ntanzi

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has been adjourned until Tuesday to allow the defence to call a new witness on behalf of accused two, Bongani Ntanzi.

The witness – who is a police officer – was expected to take the stand on Monday morning after a court order was issued last week for him to testify in the murder trial.

Ntanzi and four others are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot and killed at the Vosloorus home of the mother of singer Kelly Khumalo in Ekurhuleni.

Legal counsel Sipho Ramosepele has informed the court that the witness is currently out of the province, but is expected to be available to testify tomorrow.

“I think, my lord, they are based at the serious and violent crime unit in KwaZulu-Natal provincial office of the SAPS.”

State prosecutor George Baloyi responded, “Yes, the state is in the hands of the defence; we have no objection if the matter can be remanded until tomorrow for the evidence of the witness.”
