WSAR assisting two groups of hikers
The Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) in Cape Town has partnered with a branding company to test new exoskeleton technology aimed at improving mountain rescue operations.
The wearable device is designed to assist movement during steep climbs and long-distance hiking by reducing fatigue and improving endurance.
WSAR says the technology will now be evaluated in real-world rescue conditions during training exercises and operations.
WSAR spokesperson, David Nel says the organisation wants to assess whether the technology can improve rescuer efficiency and safety, but stresses that the collaboration is focused on evaluation rather than endorsement.
