DA to lay charges over Ekurhuleni tender allegations

The DA will lay criminal charges tomorrow against former Ekurhuleni City Manager, Dr. Imogen Mashazi and a businessman following reports linking them to tender-related irregularities in the Ekurhuleni Metro.

The charges stem from reports alleging that Mashazi’s R3.5-million private jet trip to London in 2022 was linked to tenders awarded by the city.

The DA says in a statement that the charges will be laid by the party’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, at the Germiston Police Station on the East Rand.

Mashazi made explosive allegations about corruption and the abuse of power within the Ekurhuleni Metro’s Police Department during her testimony before the Madlanga commission.

The commission then referred her and several other officials in the Ekurhuleni Metro and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) for criminal investigations which also included allegations about the luxury private jet flight bankrolled by a businessman.
