Review of Phala Phala report doesn’t halt impeachment: Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says efforts to review the findings of the Phala Phala independent panel report does not automatically halt the impeachment process.

This after President Cyril Ramaphosa filed papers in the Western Cape High Court to review the Section 89 independent panel report into Phala Phala.

He maintains that only a court order can stop proceedings, arguing that Parliament must continue in line with the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

The apex court ordered Parliament to establish an impeachment committee against the president after the panel report found that he may have violated his oath of office.

Malema says the EFF will suggest a person from outside the Government of National Unity (GNU) to chair the impeachment committee to ensure transparency.

“The report is not an interdict against the impeachment because most people confuse the things. They say because he is reviewing, we have to stop – no. Only the order of court can stop the impeachment process. A judge must say you are going to stop, and which judge is going to say we must stop the impeachment after we have been told by the Constitutional Court proceed with the impeachment?”

No escape for President Ramaphosa – Malema:
