Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court
North West businessman Brown Mogotsi will remain in custody after the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court reserved judgment in his bail application until the 4th of June.
The state has accused him of trying to bribe the investigating officer and also argued that he may be untraceable and evade trial if released on bail.
Mogotsi is facing five charges, including defeating the ends of justice and perjury, for allegedly staging an assassination attempt on his life in November last year.
His Counsel, Advocate Nthabiseng Mohomane, says he can only afford a bail amount of R10 000, despite the state proposing an amount of R100 000.
“In the event that court grants bail amount of a R100 000 is reasonable, I wish to reiterate that Mr Mogotsi said in his papers that he makes R32 000 per month. That’s his salary, that’s what he earns. and those types of amounts would be unjust. And it would be unreasonable, given his socio-economic circumstances,”
