Party Chief Whip served with arrest warrant in alleged fraud case

A chief whip of a well-known political party has been served with a warrant of arrest in connection with alleged fraud.

According to a statement by the Hawks, the 46-year-old suspect headhunted and recruited four individuals into the party as researchers, then allegedly forced them to pay between 5% and 6% of their salaries under the false pretext that the money was intended for the party president’s legal costs.

The Hawks say the accused defrauded the victims of approximately R233,317.99 in total.

The suspect is expected to make her first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
