Shebe Manurna bail appeal postponed to June

The appeal on the ruling that denied bail for Lekompo musician Lehlohonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebe Maburna, has been postponed to the 12th of June at the Polokwane High Court.

The postponement is to allow the state to file supplementary heads of argument.

State prosecutor Phaladi Mphahlele told the court that he was not the prosecutor who filed the initial heads of argument in the matter.

Chauke has been in custody since his arrest in November last year.

He has failed to get bail on three previous occasions.

The musician is facing 20 charges including attempted murder, malicious damage to property and illegal possession of a firearm, among others.

Judge Karin Pillay says: “I’ve also took cogniscant note of the fact that the state advocate appearing today was not the state advocate to file written heads of arguments yesterday. I also appreciate the fact that in this particular matter, a lot of pressure has been put on the parties because a date was given very quickly after the matter was sort for leave to appeal on the new facts from the judgment of the Magistrate Court that everybody had to carry.”
