Forestry and Environment Minister Willie Aucamp has described the incident as shocking and unprecedented, saying it is the first case of its kind reported in the history of the Kruger National Park.

SANParks spokesperson JP Louw says the outcomes of police investigations in the matter will help guide specific interventions needed to strengthen existing security at Kruger National Park.

“These actions will reinforce our ongoing commitment to visitor safety as well as operational readiness. We can confirm that existing technology systems assisted in identifying the vehicle linked to the missing tourists. This capability reflects SANParks’ existing investment in modern technology to combat poaching and other illegal activities,” adds Louw.
