About 100 arrested in Bloemfontein as shutdown leads to looting shops


About a hundred people have been arrested in Bloemfontein as the planned shutdown has now extended to looting foreign-owned shops in the township.

The planned shutdown has been called by the National Service Delivery Forum (NSDF).

Fifty people were also arrested overnight for allegedly attacking and looting foreign-owned spaza shops in Phases 6 and 10.

The police are guarding some of the infrastructure.

Police have urged residents not to get involved in wrongdoing.
