Former President Thabo Mbeki speaks at an event.
Former President Thabo Mbeki says the Phala Phala matter has nothing to do with the ANC and has cautioned the party not to be preoccupied with it, as it involves an individual businessman.
He says the Constitutional Court was justified in allowing the impeachment committee to continue its work to determine facts surrounding the theft of thousands of US dollars from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in 2020.
The Phala Phala farm theft trial will resume this morning in the Modimolle regional court in Limpopo. The three accused are being tried for the theft of $580 000 from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in Bela Bela in February 2020. #MorningLive #SABCNews pic.twitter.com/lKQSNcDDbR

He’s also emphasised that he supports Ramaphosa’s decision to challenge the matter in court.
“I think the speaker is actually correct in saying, okay, Parliamentarians, let’s constitute this committee and this committee must do its work. The President must conduct as a businessman, as he has said himself: ‘I’m a businessman. I breed cattle. I breed wildlife. I sell. I buy.’ It’s fine. That’s his business as a businessman. It has got nothing to do with the ANC. I don’t know why the ANC gets preoccupied with it. It’s got nothing to do with us. It’s of a businessman who’s doing his thing.”
