The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association in Limpopo has announced a taxi fare increase due to the fuel price hike.
The increase will come into effect next Monday.
The fare from Seshego to Polokwane town will increase by R5, from R15 to R20.
The association chairperson, Takalani Nemahungani, says the increase is due to the fuel price hike and high vehicle maintenance costs.
‘We have tried our best to come up with a mechanism so that we can at least manage not to increase the fare because we understand the problem that our customers are going to face, but we end up having no other alternative but to increase the fare. We know that this will cause inconvenience, as we know that most of our people are not working,” says Nemahungani.
Taxi operators have not yet announced any fare increases. However, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has urged taxi associations to engage with commuters on the issue.
