Limpopo’s Education Department has expressed sadness on the death of two Grade-R learners who were burnt beyond recognition when their scholar transport, a minibus taxi, burst into flames on the Apel Cross-Tswaing road on Wednesday.
Several other learners from Mannyetha Primary School were injured. The identities of the deceased learners have not been released.
The minibus taxi was carrying 22 learners. The driver has been arrested for alleged culpable homicide and overloading.
Department spokesperson Mike Maringa says they have sent the social workers to provide counselling to the families and the school.
“The MEC (Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya) has sent heartfelt condolences to the school family, including the families of the learners who perished in the accident. She has instructed the psychosocial support services to immediately go to the affected school to start with the debriefing of the learners.”
