Eight people accused of insurance-related murders appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on 25 March 2026.
Eight accused in the insurance-related killings are continuing with their bail application in the Polokwane magistrate’s court in Limpopo.
The accused had insured nine unsuspecting victims who died mysteriously and claimed insurance pay-outs amounting to R10-million.
They are part of a syndicate believed to have been led by former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela.
During their previous court appearance, defence attorney Mashudu Kwinda denied claims that he had failed to cooperate with the investigating officer regarding affidavits submitted for the bail application.
Kwinda told the court that his clients should be granted bail.
He also told the court that the investigating officer does not require affidavits from the accused to oppose bail.
The investigating officer, Captain Keshi Mabunda, is opposing the bail application, arguing that he didn’t receive affidavits from the accused.
The accused have been in custody since their arrest in March. – Reporting by Vutivi Maluleke
