COSATU backs Ramaphosa’s decision to take Parly report on review

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s decision to take Parliament’s Independent Panel report on review.

Ramaphosa made the announcement on Monday during his address to the nation following the Constitutional Court’s ruling last week.

The court found that the directives governing Parliament’s impeachment process on the Phala Phala matter were unconstitutional.

The President has also stated that he will not be resigning from office as pressure mounts from the opposition.

COSATU’s National Spokesperson Zanele Sabela says, “The man is the head of state. We cannot have a situation where we are playing musical chairs with such an important office and therefore it’s important and it’s prudent that he should satisfy himself because he obviously has questions about this report and he must do that.”
