Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and City Manager Kagiso Lerutla in the dock at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and Ekurhuleni City Manager Kagiso Lerutla are set to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The two face charges of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
The case stems from a 2019 incident, where Lerutla allegedly failed to attend a court appearance for speeding and instead arranged for someone to impersonate him.
Mkhwanazi is accused of helping organise the plan.
The State alleges the accused paid Lerutla’s impersonator around R400 000 to carry it out.
Both men are out on bail; their case is expected to be moved from the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court to the Regional Court.
