The uMkonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) has again raised concerns about the integrity of the Electoral Commission (IEC), following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of the 4th of November 2026 as the date for the Local Government Elections.

In a statement, the party says the announcement comes against the backdrop of its challenge to the results of the 2024 national elections. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for the 18th of June.
The MK Party alleges that the IEC interfered with a live Election Results System under the guise of “optimising updates,” which resulted in what it claims was a suspicious two and a half hour system downtime.
It says South Africans deserve clear answers about the downtime, otherwise the credibility of the November Local Government Elections would be in serious doubt.
