Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee
Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, looking into threats of national security, has started considering its draft report.
The committee was established last year, following allegations by KZN top cop, Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of political interference in the highest level of SAPS as well as the infiltration by five major crime syndicates.
The first draft report has been shared with committee members.
The three parts of the draft report so far consists of the evidence presented, evidence being analyzed and the outcome and recommendations.
Legal representative of Parliament, Christene Silkstone says, “To note that the committee hasn’t considered the evidence and this will impact not only on the content but also the way the report is structured. I think the chair has actually answered that because it seems to me, I think maybe you can confirm that whether we can go ahead and draft the findings, a draft preliminary findings and recommendations and I want to stress here that those would be of a technical nature.”
Last month it was revealed that the committee requested a new deadline of the end of June 2026.
But, National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza, indicated it was too far and that the end of April is a more suitable deadline.
