Bellarmine Mugabe, Tobias Matonhodze back in court for sentencing

Bellarmine Mugabe and co-accused Tobias Matonhodze are expected to be sentenced on Wednesday at the Alexandra Regional Court in Johannesburg.

Earlier this month, Mugabe pleaded guilty to being illegally in the country as well as pointing a firearm.

However, the admission of guilt for pointing a firearm relates to a separate incident, just two weeks before the shooting at his Hyde Park home.

Matonhondze pleaded guilty to attempted murder, contravening the immigration act, defeating the ends of justice, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition.

This relates to a shooting incident involving an employee at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park in February.

After having already spent several weeks behind bars, the duo will on Wednesday hear their fate following their plea agreement with the state.

Last week, the court heard that the victim in the shooting incident is to be paid a total of R400 000.

Sipho Mahlangu, the security guard who was injured during the incident in February, has already been compensated R250 000 and is yet to be paid a further R150 000.

This was according to Investigating Officer Craig Raj, who took the stand in aggravation of sentence.

Raj went on to tell the court that a harsh sentence should be imposed as both the accused are still not revealing where the firearm is that was used on the day.
