Former KZN DPP contradicts earlier testimony at Nkabinde Enquiry

Former KwaZulu-Natal acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Advocate Cyril Mlotshwa, has conceded that he was informed before May 2012 that prosecutors from outside his jurisdiction would handle the Cato Manor death squad cases.

This has contradicted his earlier testimony at the Nkabinde Enquiry, where he said he only became aware of this at the end of May 2012.

Mlotshwa has been testifying at the Nkabinde Enquiry, probing suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke’s fitness to hold office.

Mlotshwa also alleged that Chauke tried to pressure him into signing an indictment against former Hawks head Johan Booysen and members of the Cato Manor unit without proper documentation.

“When it comes to the details of the matter, up until I was recalled, I was not aware of it. I was aware of a team in KZN that Chauke would send the team, but the matter itself, that did not happen. That is what I am trying to say,” explains Mlotshwa. –  Reporting by Zanele Buthelezi
