Mnisi denies links to Malema related to Tshwane tender

Suspended Tshwane Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi says he has never had any dealings with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema or his party in relation to a tender at the Tshwane Metro Police Department.

Mnisi said this when evidence leader at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria Advocate Matthew Chaskalson cross-examined him.

Chaskalson presented the commission WhatsApp chats between Mnisi and suspended police Organised Crime Unit member Fannie Nkosi.

Chaskalson: So when you said you were managing this guy, you were managing Mr. Lekukele, not managing Mr. Malema?

Mnisi: Yes.

Chaskalson: Did you have any other dealings with Mr. Malema or the EFF in relation to TMPD 1 of 2024-25?

Mnisi: No.

Earlier, tensions flared between Khumalo SC and suspended Mnisi when he was questioned about allegedly sharing confidential tender information with Sergeant Fannie Nkosi.

Evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission shows that Mnisi shared information with Nkosi relating to invoices from Gubis85 Solutions, a service provider to the City of Tshwane.

However, Mnisi has disputed Commissioner Khumalo’s assertion maintaining that he did not share any confidential information with Nkosi.

Commissioner Khumalo: Mr. Mnisi, when you say to him purchase orders as per request have been approved, are you saying you’re not sharing information there?

Mnisi: I’m responding to the concerns that you had raised.

Commissioner Khumalo: But you’re saying you never shared information with Sergeant Nkosi. Are you saying there when you say purchase orders as per request have been approved, that’s not sharing information?

Mnisi: Commissioner, I’m trying to explain a point. And when I’m cut off, it makes it extremely difficult for me.

Khumalo: Mr. Mnisi, we are asking questions.  And for your benefit, we would like you to answer our questions.
