Road accident fund offices
Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has begun considering the first draft report on its oversight inquiry into the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
The committee has concluded its investigation into allegations of maladministration at the fund.
SCOPA chairperson Songezo Zibi says the draft report is extensive due to the number of public submissions received, including from individuals within the fund.
“There is a lot that was said, but the important thing is to pick up the details that matter and make sure that they corroborate the evidence by other evidence, including the minutes of meetings and other submissions that we received. This, therefore, means that we got to draw the line somewhere. We can’t have a very long report because we have effectively repeated what was put on. So we are going to start with matters related to claims,” said Zibi.
The committee is expected to refine the report as part of its oversight process before finalisation.
