The South African Police Service (SAPS) says its leadership camp for children of members who died in the line of duty is an initiative to ensure that they are well taken care of.
57 beneficiaries of the Police Service Education Trust Fund are being hosted at the third leadership camp in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
The three-day camp aims to provide guidance on tertiary education, leadership development and personal growth.
Major General Nonkululeko Phokane says the camp not only honours fallen officers but also equips their children with tools to cope.
“Now for them it is important for us as SAPSSET to say let us gather in this camp and group them in a very structured program that will prepare them for future. We also would have our unit from the SAPS that will look into issues of building them up.”
