Mapulaneng driving license testing center in Bushbuckridge Local municipality in Mpumalanga, burnt down.
The Mapulaneng Driving Licence Testing Centre in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, has temporarily been closed after the building was set on fire in the early hours of Monday morning.
Bushbuckridge Local Municipality Spokesperson Fhumulani Thovhakale says four of the offices caught fire.
Eye-testing machines, licencing equipment, and documents were destroyed.
Thovhakale says they found a bottle with petrol in the morning that indicates someone intentionally burnt the center.
“We take comfort on the fact that really there were no confidential documents that were burnt and also the licences that were in the offices, we managed to rescue them because they were not burnt. So, it is disturbing for us what has happened here, because this really takes us back as we are moving forward.”
“Spending the budget that we don’t have for the development of Bushbuckridge and you find incidences like these because the offices are completely burnt [including] the machines that they use for eye testing. So, we need to go out and get funds to buy the machines or the furniture that has been burnt.”-Reporting by Nonkululeko Shongwe
