Ramaphosa says Free State can be central for economic growth

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Free State is uniquely positioned to be at the heart of the country’s economic growth story as it is strategically positioned.

He says the province can capitalise on a logistic distribution hub linking major economic centers in the country.

The Free State has extensive agricultural capacity and contributes significantly to the nation’s food security. It also  has a growing agro-processing centre as well as an established mining sector. The president says the province is also leveraging on natural resources to generate renewable energy and battery storage for electricity generation.

Ramaphosa says the Free State’s urban centers are well positioned to attract investments.

“The Free State is leading the way in providing comprehensive agriculture support to emerging farmers. And implementing the  food security initiative to vulnerable communities. You are leading in that part, you should show other provinces so that they can learn from you through workshops and show case your wealth. During the last financial year the province also exceeded its work opportunity target through its Expanded Public Works Programme reaching more than 46 000 beneficiaries. The Free State also continues to register success in the provincial health services notably around HIV and AIDS as well as Tuberculosis. There has also been notably progress in fighting crime.”
