Anti-child pornography awareness.
The Film and Publication Board has raised concerns about the growing threat of material of sexual abuse of children circulating online. The board says emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and encrypted platforms have significantly intensified the scale. The board and representatives of the police and the National Prosecuting Authority met in Cape Town a few days ago.
The board’s CEO Norman Gidi says the trends that they have seen in the recent period are a number of scam materials that are spreading more, especially online.
“We have analysed hundreds to thousands to millions of videos wherein we have confirmed that there are child pornography pictures and videos that are being circulated. In terms of the Films and Publications Act, it is an offense for someone to possess, distribute or produce child sexual abuse material or pornography. We don’t only look at the Film and Publications Act, there are also other acts that criminalise child pornography like the Cybercrime Act.”
