A suspect seen handcuffed after handing himself over to the police.
A 41-year-old suspect has handed himself over to the Polokwane Police Station in Limpopo in connection with the alleged insurance killings and fraud case, linked to former police officer Rachel Kutumela.
His detention brings the total number of suspects in the alleged syndicate to 11. Kutumela, together with her daughter, sister and brother, were arrested between 2024 and 2025.
Her husband and her two other brothers were arrested along with their three other accomplices this week.
“We do believe he is facing similar charges of murder, money laundering, fraud and many other charges. I think for now, we’re sitting at 47 charges that these accused are facing. In terms of the case, I think as the police, as law enforcement, we are here on behalf of the victims that all have died, for their families to get justice. Like we’ve indicated, great detective work. We’ve got full faith and confidence in the investigating team,” says National Police Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
