Statistics SA (StatsSA) is expected to release the third quarter employment statistics today with an expert saying they expect a slight decline.

Unemployment increased in the second quarter to 33.5 % from 32.9 %.

Young people remain the most impacted by high unemployment.

Economist with Investec Lara Hodes says, “Vulnerable youth comprising those between 15 to 24 years remain the most disadvantaged segment when it comes to finding sustainable employment in the subdued economy and employment in this group remain at critically elevated level.”
