Bongani Ntanzi denies possessing cellphone in prison


Accused number two in the Senzo Meyiwa trial Bongani Ntanzi  has refuted claims that he was in possession of a cellphone while in the prison cells.

Ntanzi was arrested in June 2020 for his alleged involvement the murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

Five men are currently on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa. State prosecutor George Baloyi has taken Ntanzi through phone records of communication allegedly between Ntanzi, a legal representative and family members months after his arrest.

Advocate Baloyi also says data also shows various purchases of airtime before his phone was confiscated from his prison cell.

“My Lord, upon my arrest on the 16th of June, my phone was confiscated. And secondly on this document that has been read, it does not indicate that air time was bought. And, my lord, it does not show as to where my phone was on the 21st, where my phone was on the 25th. There are no towers that are showing.”
