Sibiya denies knowing that Scharnik had run-ins with the law

Suspended deputy national police commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya has testified that he did not know that businessman Stuart Scharnick had a history of conflict with law enforcement.

Scharnick, who acted as Sibiya’s bodyguard, made headlines last year after Crime Intelligence Head General Dumisani Khumalo revealed before the Madlanga Commission that he had 34 criminal charges against him with 18 resulting in convictions.

General Sibiya has defended his relationship with Scharnick.

“So, I’m just saying it’s normal. You don’t investigate a person criminally when you meet him the first time. I don’t know if Commissioner Khumalo will meet me and then before we begin to acquaint myself, then you will have heard me.”
