Major routes in Thohoyandou to be closed ahead of Armed Forces Day

Several major routes in Thohoyandou will be closed until Saturday as part of preparations for the upcoming Armed Forces Day celebrations.

The Thulamela Municipality says the road closures are necessary to ensure the safe movement of heavy army vehicles and to protect members of the public.

Traffic volumes in Thohoyandou have increased significantly over the past few weeks due to the arrival of SANDF personnel and visitors attending the national event.

Municipal Spokesperson, Nndwamato Tshila, has assured residents and motorists that alternative routes have been identified to minimize disruptions.

“In terms of the closure of the roads, we are going to start from Tshililo traffic lights, from there we are going to Shayandhima township, and the circle centre, until we reach the lukoto entrances. By the way, we have made provisions that some bypasses from Duthuni to Phiphidi are available for traffic until Sibasa. Apart from that, we are also going to deploy our traffic officials to monitor the traffic.”
