Residents of Hursthill say they no longer trust municipal water after taps ran reddish on Thursday. The affected areas include Hursthill and parts of Auckland Park.
Residents say the tap water is sometimes smelly, and they fear their lives could be at risk, as they may contract diseases such as cholera.

First year student from University of Johannesburg, Sinethemba Maduna says the water issue in Hurstihill has been the issue for a couple of weeks now as they sometimes spend two days without water.
“It has been a long time now and it seems like the situation is getting worse, we are forced to buy water to cook, drink and even bathe. I find it hard for me to buy water everyday as a first year student since I haven’t got even my allowance.”

The City of Johannesburg is facing water issues as many areas experiencing water shortages. Last week Melville residents took it to the streets as they spent more than 20 days with no water.
Mayor Dada Morero says they are working around the clock to fix the water issue in Johannesburg.
