Phala Phala trial set to resume at Modimolle Regional Court

The Phala-Phala trial is expected to resume Friday at the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo. This relates to the theft of 580 000 US dollars at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in 2020.

Last week, the state witness, who is a financial investigating officer, told the court that he analysed transactions in the bank accounts of the first accused, Immanuwela David to show activity before and after the break in.

He testified that David had large sums of money deposited into his different accounts after the break in at the house.   The officer explained that David used some of the money to purchase properties, including a house in the North West province.

David’s lawyer argued that the money he used to purchase the house in North West came from his trading Luno account.

The lawyer further told court that the investigating officer’s findings cannot be trusted as he failed to pick up the Luno account, when analysing David’s bank accounts.

The media is not allowed to name witnesses.

David and his two co-accused, the Joseph siblings, Froliana and Ndilinasho are on trial for allegedly stealing the money that was hidden in a sofa.

Accused one, David has been remanded in custody since his arrest while Floriana and Ndilinasho Joseph are out on R5 000 and R10 000 bail, respectively.
