The EFF is the latest party to reject Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza’s decision to reshuffle his Mayoral Committee.
The move has seen the removal of Bridget Thusi as a member of the mayoral committee for Community Services and Kgopello Hollo for Human Settlements.
The Water and Sanitation portfolio has also been taken from the EFF’s Thembi Msane.
The EFF’s announcement follows ActionSA’s rejection of the appointment of its mayoral candidate and councillor, Xolani Khumalo to take over Community Services and By-Law Enforcement.
The EFF says Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza took the decision to remove and reshuffle its councillors without consultation.
It says it will now assume opposition benches and continue its work outside Xhakaza’s committee.
ActionSA’s Herman Mashaba has also criticised Xhakaza for appointing Khumalo without consultation, saying Khumalo will not take the position.
The swearing-in of some MMCs continued despite the boycott by the two parties.
