Outside High Court in the Western Cape.
The legal counsel of alleged underworld crime boss, Jerome Booysen has described a state witness known as Mr X as an untruthful witness. This emerged during the trial of Booysen and others in the High Court in Cape Town.
Booysen and 11 co-accused face charges relating to the 2017 murder of Brian Wainstein, and those related to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
Booysen’s lawyer, Advocate Amanda Nel has continued to question Mr X’s credibility regarding the statements he made in 2018 and his section 204 statements in 2019.
This relates to conflict between rival gangs over the control of security at night clubs around Cape Town.
Mr X told the court that a meeting between Booysen, Andre Naude, Mark Lifman and Kamal Naidoo took place at Booysen’s house in Bellville, where a takeover of night clubs from alleged crime boss, Nafiz Modack and Booysen’s brother, Colin was discussed.
Nel submitted that Mr X did not give a detailed version of what happened in 2017, during the alleged takeover until 2019.
