North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has told the provincial Ad Hoc committee that the affidavits that were presented by previous witnesses that include of an employee of Naledi Local Municipality Thabo Sejake, a former municipal employee Thabo Appolus and the former Municipal Manager, Modisenyane Segapo, clearly indicate that there was a plot against him.
Mokgosi was responding to the chats presented before the committee.
Mokgosi appeared before the committee on Saturday to conclude his testimony.
“Now listening to the discussion of people who made affidavits I then now realise that having not responded to that message was a correct instinct because it proved that Apolous, Segapo and Sejake had been communicating amongst themselves, they have been plotting the Mokgosi must fall campaign. Even the messages that are there are concocted.”
The North West Legislature’s Ad Hoc Committee was established to investigate allegations of improper conduct against Mokgosi.
The allegations were made by the Mayor of the Naledi Local Municipality Clifton Groep, during an oversight visit of Parliament’s Joint Portfolio Committees to municipalities in the province in September last year.
Groep alleged that Mokgosi had instructed a former employee of the municipality Thabo Appolus, to alter a report concerning the appointment of the Municipal Manager Modisenyane Segapo.
An incident alleged to have happened in 2023 when Mokgosi was the ANC Chief Whip at the legislature.
