Minerals research organisation, Mintek says strong partnerships between key role players in the mining industry, including government and mining companies, are crucial for adding value to South Africa’s mineral exports.
Mintek’s Executive Manager for Minerals Processing, Lawrence Bbosa, says beneficiation can be added to every step of the mining value chain.
He believes that partnerships could add value to exploration, processing, and mineral refining. He made these comments while speaking at the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
“Where we are at the moment which is quite encouraging, the Mining Indaba’s theme this year, which is progress through partnerships is we are realising that we cannot do it alone. So while we have the expertise in areas such as technology we then partner with industry and academia, we get the support from government and we then get to see that advancement and in different regions in the country we are starting to see that a lot of this is starting to move away from just conversations to actually putting together in place programmes that can actually be successful.”
