The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has launched a self-service online portal registration system.
The system is aimed at enabling citizens to register, update, and verify their details remotely to improve accessibility, efficiency, and integrity of the voter registration process.
To date, the portal has recorded over 26 000 newly registered voters, bringing the number of registered voters a little close to 28 million voters.
The Electoral Commission’s Deputy Head of Communications, David Mandaha says this is to ramp up efforts to empower all eligible voters, particularly the youth, to actively participate in South Africa’s democratic and electoral processes.
“This year alone, the portal has recorded over 26 000 newly registered voters. We encourage all South Africans who are eligible to vote to register online and those who have already registered to verify their details and update them accordingly. It is important to note that voters in these upcoming elections must register where they live and vote where they’ve registered. We urge all south africans to visit registertovote.elections.org.za today.”
