SAWS issues heatwave warning for three provinces


Extremely high temperatures are expected over some parts of the Northern Cape, Free State and North West.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a warning for a heat wave, which is expected to persist until Friday.

The temperature in Upington in the Northern Cape is expected to hit a high of 40 Degree Celsius by Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures.

Meteorologist Lehlohonolo Thobela says, “A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over the Northern Cape, stretching into the Free State as well as the southern parts of the North West until Friday, the 30th of January 2026.”

“Upington is expected to peak at 40 degrees Celsius this afternoon, De Aar at 36 and Kimberley at 37 Degrees Celsius. The public is urged to keep cool and make sure to drink a lot of water and remember to use your sunscreen.”
